Father of Euro opened account in Beijing |

Chinanews, Nov.12 - This morning, renowned economist, Nobel Economics laureate and "Father of Euro" Professor Robert A. Mundell took out 100,000 yuan (US$12,330) from a black plastic bag and opened a VIP account in a bank in Beijing. He indicated that now that he has a Beijing Green Card, he would also like a "monetary Green Card".
His Chinese friend Program in Economic and Financial Policy Management (PEFPM) project manager Zhang Zhixiang revealed that because of great confidence in Chinas economic development and intense love towards the nation, Professor Mundell has paid frequent visits to China and launched many cooperative programs with the country, including Mundell institute and a Mundell postdoctoral research center. Mundell always pays close attention to the Chinese economy. He not only offered solid support for RMB exchange rate policies but also highly praised Chinas economic reform measures such as commercial bank restructuring, capital market construction and structural transform in its state-owned enterprises.
On March 16, 2005, Mundell gained a "Green Card" standing for the permanent right of residence in Beijing. |
